One way to install software is to download the RPM packages for your platform eg Cent OS 6, i386 or x86_64. Using this approach you will have to manually handle dependency problems. For Alien, try to follow the link below:

http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/16442959/dir/redhat_el_6/com/perl-Alien-wxWidgets-0.50-1.el6.rf.i686.rpm.html

used for Building, finding and using wxWidgets binaries.

Hope it helps

install alien on CentOS 6

I gave up on alien years ago due to its problems with dependencies and other shortcomings, which may well be why none of the usual 3rd party repos supply it. It is far better to try to obtain a native package with proper dependencies specified for whatever software you require, or if necessary to create or rebuild one. If there is a specific package you need please ask about it in a fresh topic.

You cannot just take an rpm from a different distro (fc18) and install it on CentOS. At a minimum you need to take the SRPM and rebuild it on a CentOS machine and also rebuild all its dependencies...
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

And dirtier side -I had luck with pdfedit

Good luck is good because it doesn't not always

Pointless installing a non-native pdfedit when a CentOS version is already available in the EPEL repository.

No one else has had any input on this thread since 2011 so I doubt if anything will be forthcoming now. Trying to use packages form other distributions is a dead end, far better to learn how to do it properly and build them yourself in the first place. You might also benefit from looking at http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories to see what alternate sources of packages currently exist.
