CentOS7, stuck in installation, critical errors

Post by Eagle Creek » 2014/07/24 10:45:57

Hey guys!

I'm trying to install CentOS 7 onto a Dell Optiplex 790.
I used PenDriveLinux to put the image on an (8GB) USB stick.

However, as soon as I choose to install CentOS several errors appear.
I've uploaded them to a web album for you:

To be sure, I also tried another pc (Dell Optiplex 7010). This time fewer errors appear, but in the end the install ends up in emergency mode as well.

I've tried searching for these errors on the internet, but mostly I find people asking "why do you use CentOS, try X distribution". Which, obviously, isn't helpfull at all.
I also removed several hardware components, like HDD and NIC to make sure those aren't the issue.
I ran a MEM86 MEMTEST, but it found no errors (the pc works fine as well).

As for the moment, I have no clue on what to do next...
Please advice!

Did you check the md5sum/sha256sum of your downloaded iso? If it is correct then use dd to transfer it to your USB stick.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Try LiveUSB Creator instead, as recommended by Fedora: http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fed ... Media.html (Section "Making Fedora USB Media on a Windows Operating System")

Bootable flash drive creators, such as UNetbootin and LiveUSB Creator, must understand how a CD boots, because they copy the contents in the CD to flash drives. For a freshly release OS, support might not have been added yet.

If your computer does not have a CD/DVD drive, and you do not have a USB CD/DVD drive available, I suggest you look into the grub4dos ISOs multiboot solution, Easy2Boot. http://www.easy2boot.com/make-an-easy2b ... rmprepusb/ It can multiboot ISO images stored in flash drives.

Just dd the ISO to the thumb drive.

I can verify that the gnomelive IMG works fine through the Fedora related liveusb creator, I've been using it with a overlay to make it persistent. I have not tried to install from it though. For my one install I used a USB optical drive with a burned install disk (not live type).

This is the easiest way to create bootable flash drive for hybrid ISOs.

Thank you for your replies.

Right now I only have a Windows 7 pc available to make the usb stick, so Linux-commands aren't usable. I don't have the possibility to burn a dvd.

I just downloaded Fedora LiveUSB creator and it's "burning" as we speak.
Keep you posted.

You can download dd for windows - google finds multiple copies of it though I've never used any of them. Feedback from users who have would be welcome so we know of a reliable source.

This new image seems much better. I end up in a GUI and it lets me select several settings.

However, at the main screen it says :
Installation Source
Error setting up base repository

When I click it and then click Media verification it says "this media is not good to install from".
Software selection says "Installation source not set up".

It then doesn't let me install.

Edit:
I did a MD5 check and it seems to be OK
"713ea7847adcdd1700e92429f212721a"

Just to be sure I'll try another USB stick as well, although the USB stick I used is brand new.
Going to burn a DVD now, just to see whether that works.
I'm beginning to think the new CentOS7 somehow doesn't let itself be written to USB-media or something..?
