Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":8".

Whoever wrote:":8" -- is this in a VNC session? Are you using the nVidia graphics driver?
I have the same problem and it is a VNC session. At CentOS 7 server (3.10.0-229.20.1.el7.x86_64) I installed tigervnc-server.
Then I connect to it using VNC-client from another CentOS 7 machine (client). After the authentication a message appears saying literally "Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has ocurred and the system can't recover. Please log out and try again." And the server's desktop does not appear.

Tigervnc-server log is:

Code: Select all

cat /home/user/.vnc/localhost.localdomain\:9.log

Server has NVidia 750 TI with proprietary drivers installed. I suppose the problem has something to do with that.
What could be causing this? I will provide more details if needed.

Thank you.

This post was split away from a similar topic viewtopic.php?f=13&t=53342 in the CentOS 6 forums but since it applies to CentOS 7, I have created a new one in the right forum.
CentOS 5 died in March 2017 - migrate NOW!

Install Nvidia proprietary drivers from ELRepo.
Install the nvidia-detect tool first:

Code: Select all

yum install nvidia-detect
Then run it to make sure what drivers are needed:

Code: Select all

nvidia-detect
Finally, install the prescribed drivers for the graphics card (Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti):

Code: Select all

yum install kmod-nvidia
All commands to be run as root. If Nvidia proprietary drivers were installed from another source, they have to be removed first. For example, if the Nvidia installer was used, run it again with the --uninstall option.
Root is evil: Do not use root (sudo) to run any of the commands specified in my posts unless explicitly indicated. Please, provide the necessary amount of context to understand your problem/question.
