how to install amarok 1.4

Post by ket_nn » 2011/07/23 09:38:52

amarok 1.4 is one of the best players designed for linux.
For CentOS 5 the corresponding rpm can be installed from the Epel repository.
It is no longer available in CentOS 6 or am I wrong ? If there is a straightforward workaround to have it for CentOS 6 ?

Thanks

Closest I can find is exaile from RPMforge repo.
Name : exaile
Arch : x86_64
Version : 0.2.14
Release : 2.el6.rf
Size : 1.0 M
Repo : rpmforge
Summary : Music player
URL : http://www.exaile.org/
License : GPL
Description : Exaile is a media player aiming to be similar to KDE's AmaroK, but for GTK+.
: It incorporates many of the cool things from AmaroK (and other media players)
: like automatic fetching of album art, handling of large libraries, lyrics
: fetching, artist/album information via the wikipedia, last.fm support, optional
: iPod support (assuming you have python-gpod installed).
:
: In addition, Exaile also includes a built in shoutcast directory browser,
: tabbed playlists (so you can have more than one playlist open at a time),
: blacklisting of tracks (so they don't get scanned into your library),
: downloading of guitar tablature from fretplay.com, and submitting played tracks
: on your iPod to last.fm
I have the exact same problem.
But don't we have the original amarok somewhere ? I managed to install digikam and k3b, but i can not find amarok in any of the repo....

As there is no Amarok packaged for EL6, about all one could do is file a request at a 3rd party repo, and/or try to rebuild the EL5 SRPM.
