An old server which does not start [Solved][Fixed]

Post by liloulinx » 2017/01/10 15:10:33

Hello,
My frind has an old server (old CentOS or RedHat) which doesn't start. It display the following:

Code: Select all

VFS: Disk quotas vdquot_6.5.1
aio_setupl num_physpages = 65020
aio setup: sizeof(struct page) = 56
Hugetlbfs mounted.
pty: 2848 Unix98 ptys configured
Serial driver version 5.85c (2881-87-88) with MANY_PORTS MULTIPORT SHARE_IRQ SERIAL_PCl ISAPMP, enabled
ttyS0 at 0x038 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
Real time Clock Driver v1.10e
NET4: Frame Diverter 0.46
RAMDISK driver initialized: 256 RAM disks of 8192K size 1024 blocksize
Uniform Multi-Platform E-IDE driver Revision: 7.00beta4-2.4
ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PIO modes; override with idebus=xx
ICH5: IDE controller at PCI slot 00:1f.1
PCI: Enabling device 00:1f.1 (0005 -> 0007)
PCI: Found IRQ 5 for device 00:1f.1
PCI: Sharing 1RQ 5 with 00:1d.2
PCI: Sharing 1RQ 5 with 00:1f.2
ICH5: chipset revision 2
ICH5: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later
Ide0: BM-DMA at 0x1460-0x14c7, BIOS settings: hda:pio, hdb:DMA
Ide1: BM-DMA at 0x1460-0x14cf, BIOS settings: hdc:pio, hdd:pio
hdb:WDC WD400BB-60JKAB, ATA DISK drive
blk: queue c0418678, I/O limit 4095Mb (mask Oxffffffff)
It seems that the server has 3 disks: the first is for OS and the 2 others, in RAID 1, for data.
Someone has an idea how to start this server? Problem of syst file mounting, missing files ???
In the nexte step, I wil try to boot on a liveCD to see if the disks are OK.
Thanks in advance.

I think we need to know which version of CentOS? There are currently 3 supported version: 5, 6 and 7. The kernel version would tell us which one.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Info for USB installs on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

The server doesn't start. Si I can not now know the version, but it's probably a Redhat 5.
If I boot on a CentOS liveCD, I will see the version of the installed OS, by editing the content of the /etc/redhat-release file.

Also look in /boot at the vmlinuz* files.

Hello.
I intervened on the machine lastday. The machine was able to finally start without further manipulation. It was the hard drive that was blocked.
So problem solved.
Thank you
