TigerVNC not showing CentOS menu bar and background?

Post by briansrls » 2017/11/07 17:25:04

I've tried to set up tigervnc using the guide found here: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/ ... n-centos-7

I've used this guide when setting up tigervnc-server 1.3 on centos7.3. Now, I'm on a freshly installed centos 7.4 with tigervnc 1.8. I complete the steps, am able to connect, but this is what the vncviewers I've tried have showed:

Any idea from looking at it? If not, let me know what other information I can show. For the most part I've just done the steps in the link. However, I didn't install gnome because that already exists on my machine.

I have the exact same issue, also 7.4, have you managed to get around it yet?

For anyone still searching, I recommend installing XRDP to access your desktop remotely. Follow this guide to install:http://www.itzgeek.com/how-tos/linux/ce ... hel-7.html

I had the same problem. Checking /var/log/messages show gnome-session crash.

Looking at :
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1442680
The problem can be related to a plugin of Gnome which crashes gnome-session.

Removing gnome-weather fixed the problem for me :

Code: Select all

yum remove gnome-weather.noarch

Solution is a permissions issue for me. See this thread: viewtopic.php?t=4743 Basically don't SU to your user and start vncserver in Centos 7 (you could do this in 6), cause it don't work no more.
