CentOS installation help on i7 8700

Post by Binary » 2018/02/12 04:47:18

Im trying to install centOS 7 on my custom built server (really a pc built into a server chassis) and im having issues.
My parts are:

-i7 8700
-32GB DDR4 RAM
-MSI Motherboard
(pretty sure secure boot disabled and legacy enabled)
-Samsung 850 PRO (I know there have been issues with this drive, are there still issues?)
-Samsung 850 EVO

Ive tried minimal, DVD, and everything. but i always get this:

Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word,
TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists
possible device or file completions.

Grub> _

Can anyone help me?

What were the exact steps you performed before getting that error? Do you get it when attempting to boot the install media or the installed system?

What kind of install media do you use, USB or DVD? If USB, how did you create the USB stick? Using plain old dd is the recommended way, see https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey

I used dd and it worked. That'll teach me to use free tools. Thanks! :D

Just 'dd' the image to the usb and try again.
Many image 'burners' play smart which breaks the image itself.
