[HOW TO] - Update security patches on a standalone CentOS 7.x

Post by infectedgti » 2018/03/08 10:09:43

Hi,

I need to update my CentOS 7.x, but only security patches for paquets installed.
This server is not connected to network.

I have an CentOS 7.4 which is connected to internet.

My constraint is I want to download only rpm used on my standalone, and only thoose for security.
How can I do this?

What's the step ?

Thank you

You cannot. The CentOS yum repos do not include the necessary metadata for yum-plugin-security to function so it is not possible to use yum update --security. For CentOS you must either apply all updates or none, there is no way to select only security updates.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Ok, but there is a way to list paquets need updates security.
So I thought we could extract this list on my standalone, and download only those paquets, and then, just install rpm on Standalone.

What do you think ?

This is pointless, unless you want to save bandwidth. If a rpm is not installed , yum won't update it...

There isn't, that's what I just told you.

I suspect what you want is a local mirror - see https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/CreateLocalMirror
