Vostro 3468 touchpad not working

I have installed centos 7 on my vostro 3468 laptop. Everything works fine except the touchpad. I have checked the snaptics drivers, they are installed. External usb mouse works. touchpad works out of the box on ubuntu. The laptop came with ubuntu 14.04 installed. Can you provide the fix for touchpad. I have contacted dell but they say they have limited support for linux. Please help. I am new to linux, just migrating from windows to linux because want to be a serious developer.

Is the xorg-x11-drv-evdev package installed?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Info for USB installs on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
