No WiFi adapter found in HP laptop

Post by Alexis » 2018/11/07 16:27:17

Hi. I recently installed CentOS 7 in my HP laptop and everything works perfectly fine except the WiFi. It doesn't find the adapter. i searched around the web i see that it is a common issue with Realtek adapters. i tried installing the driver manually and it doesn't work. It's a rtl8723de, any other info needed just ask.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, the device id for it. If it's a USB adapter then use lsusb.py to locate the device in question then post the second field from that line which looks similar to 0c45:644d (vendor:device id). If it's a PCI adapter then use lspci -nn | grep -i wire to find and post the field from that that's in that format (or the whole line might be easier and more informative in both cases).
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

lspci -nn | grep -i wire
tried that and got nothing as result.

That's the one. Looking for that shows it isn't supported in the CentOS kernel. You could try opening an RFE on the ELRepo bug tracker and see if they would provide a kmod driver package for it. I couldn't find an existing one when I looked though that doesn't mean there isn't one.

Well I wouldn't consider it solved. You have an answer but no working wireless adapter :-) Try the ELRepo route and report back on what they say.
