Trevor

Sorry to be a pain but I am getting pretty much the same output.
I am using "e" at the grub menu and the deleting the "rhgb quiet" from the last line, the only place I saw it.
The only difference is that at the "fast init done" it stops then slowly prints out each line with a dwell between lines.

The dracut-initqueue messages are not the problem, they are the symptom. You have to go back further than those to see the underlying cause of the error.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Trevor

Will I be lucky enough to see a "Big Warning" at the problem?

Jim

Trevor

I am unable to identify the problem looking at the output on the screen from startup, the jounalctl command, or the /run/initramfs/rdsoreport.txt.
I could take photos of any of the above and post them to a website you could view.
I can't find any way to output the files from the computer even though a memstick is seen in the usb port.

Thanks
Jim

Well that would be complaining that something that looks like a hard disk is disabled, so, yes, it could easily be part of the problem.

Did you BIOS settings revert your SATA controllers from AHCI mode to old fashioned IDE? That would explain it.

I don't believe it did the Bios is "Dell System Workstation 390" 2.4.0 (07/20/07)

#
And the drives show ,, for one of the first drives
Controller details:
controller = serial ATA
port = sata-0

Drive details:
drive id = ST20000DM001-1CH164
capacity = 2.0 TB
bios = this drive is controlled by the AHCI BIOS
#

Thanks

Did I mention that at the bottom of the output from startup is says (or said on the second startup)
Starting Dracut Emergency Shell....
Warning: /dev/cl/root does not exist
Warning: /dev/cl/swap does not exist
Warning: /dev/mapper/cl-root does not exist

Generating "/run/initramfs/rdsoreport.txt"

Entering emergency mode. Exit the shell to continue.
Type "journalctl" to view system logs.
you might want to save "/run/initramfs/rdsoreport.txt" to a USB stick or /boot
after mounting them and attaching it to a bug report.

When you removed the battery, all your CMOS settings, adjustable via the BIOS setup screen, will have been reset to defaults. I suspect that one of them is the source of your problem. Since it's not finding your disk(s) any more I would concentrate on options to do with those or the disk controllers.

Trevor

Well Okay then. At the bottom ot the list of sata/pata drives is a "sata operation" page changing from the apparent default
RAID Autodetect / AHCI to RAID Autodetect / ATA recovered the boot. It also changed the descriptor in the SATA-0 / 1 pages from

bios = this drive is controlled by the AHCI BIOS to
bios = this drive is controlled by the System BIOS.

So once again you have pulled me back from the fire..
Thank you so much.

If you ever reinstall I would recommend changing that to AHCI. It's faster and more efficient and generally better.
