Package ipxe-roms-qemu needs update

Post by abhiniveshjain » 2019/09/19 07:24:24

I am trying iPXE boot from my PXE server that runs on CentOS 7.6. iPXE is not working and iPXE forums suggested to use the latest iPXE version. iPXE version that comes with ipxe-roms-qemu is more than 2 yrs old. Please release the new package with latest iPXE.

[root@localhost cluster]# rpm -qa|grep ipxe
ipxe-roms-qemu-20170123-1.git4e85b27.el7_4.1.noarch

This uses, iPXE commit 4e85b27 (https://git.ipxe.org/ipxe.git/commit/4e85b27) that was released on 23 Jan 2017.

Running yum update will update your CentOS to 7.7 which includes ipxe-roms-qemu-20180825.

Thanks for your reply. Few questions here.

1. I didn't find any reference to ipxe-roms-qemu-20180825 in CentOS 7.7, please share the relevant details.

2. Can't I apply this rpm directly on CentOS 7.6?

3. Why ipxe-roms-qemu version is stil more than 1 year old (20180825) when CentOS 7.7 was released only 2 days ago (20190917)?

CentOS is a rebuild of RHEL and ships whatever RHEL ships. The latest ipxe-roms in RHEL is ipxe-20180825-2.git133f4c. If they at some point choose to update the package, the new package will also end up to CentOS. CentOS does not provide newer versions than what RHEL ships.

We don't support cherry picking updates. You will get this update and all the others as well when you run yum update.

Maybe you should try updating and see if the problem you are facing gets fixed by that.
