[SOLVED] network icon not showing

Try running "nm-applet" at the command line as the logged in user, and "service NetworkManager restart" as root. If that fails restart the system.

If more help is needed then please provide more information about your system by running "./getinfo.sh network" and showing us the output file.

Makes sense that if you had removed that package then the icon would disappear.
# rpm -qf `which nm-applet`
NetworkManager-gnome-0.8.1-15.el6.x86_64
Thanks for reporting back. Marking this thread [SOLVED] for posterity. Uninstalling KDE should not have been necessary - it can peacefully coexist with Gnome.
