Hi All,
Google Earth wants me to upgrade my video drivers. I could go
out to nVidia's web site and download the latest, but I thought I'd
better ask if this was a good idea before starting. Any words
of wisdom?
Many thanks,
-T

Re: Google Earth wants me to upgrade my video drivers
I seem to recall a similar(ish) thread from earlier this year. Ah, yes, here it is http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=13180&forum=38&post_id=43917#forumpost43917
Perhaps that may be of interest to you?
(Subtle hint: I found it by the use of the Search function, above. :-) )
HTH.
Alan.

Re: Google Earth wants me to upgrade my video drivers
okay. The thread you sent me to is for an Intel 915 card.
My xorg.conf seems to be intact:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "nv"
EndSection
system-config-display seems to be happy.
Is there a reason not to go out to the nVidia web site
and download their driver? Is there something in the
stock driver that Google Earth does not like? What
is "Open GL with Software Emulation"? Is there
a such thing as "Open GL with Hardware Emulation"?
Many thanks,
-T

Re: Google Earth wants me to upgrade my video drivers
As long as you have made plans to keep a copy of your current driver and configuration, JIC, then I can see no reason why you couldn't try with the latest version from the nVidia web site. But remember, that is just my opinion - I do not use that driver/controller combination myself.
Only the persons responsible for software development/support for the Google Earth package would be able to answer your second question.
"I have no idea" is my honest answer to question #3, whilst I'll answer #4 with a "I don't know".
Unless anyone else has a view on this subject, it does seem that you are on your own. Sorry if it is not quite what you would like to hear.
