I am using a new MSI MS-7529 motherboard with Pentium Dual Core E5200 2.6Ghz CPU with 2Gig Ram and a Sata 320Gig HDD.
I am trying to install Centos 5.5 on it. It gets all the way to the first screen where I can make a kernel or boot choice.
No matter what my selection is, it starts to boot and then run a "Kernel Panic - not syncing : Fatal exception". (This is before the point where you can test the DVD).
I have select with and without acpi=off and noapic.
I have tried using the LiveCD with the same problem.
However, when installing Centos Server 4.7 it installs without any problem.
I have done a mem test and it came up clear.
Not sure if it will help but the line just before the kernel panic is:
EIP: [] intel_i915_configure+0xce/0xee SS:ESP 0068:df88f04
I have installed 5.5 on other hardware without any issues from the same DVD.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.

It may be that CentOS-5 is not compatible with your computer. You might try some of the other boot options found at http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/Installation_Guide-en-US/ch-bootopts-x86.html or elsewhere.

Re: FRESH INSTALL CENTOS 5.5 KERNEL PANIC
OK, I found a work around to the problem. :-) It had to do with the BIOS and the setup of the BIOS.
Two ways to handle:
1. Found the problem in BIOS & fix (I could not find the problem. :-( )
2. Load Safe defaults and then go back and change the settings to your liking. (What I did)
Additional boot options did not help.

Re: [RESOLVED] FRESH INSTALL CENTOS 5.5 KERNEL PANIC
It would be interesting to know what the critical BIOS setting might have been, but we may just have to leave it as one of life's little mysteries and mark the thread [RESOLVED]. :-)
P.S. - Should have said earlier, as per Readme First - please refrain from SHOUTING.
