Clean CentOS 5.8 Install - No Login - Blue Screen

Post by MarcF » 2012/08/04 16:28:04

I've just done a clean install of CentOS 5.8 from DVD on the following hardware

ASRock Z77E-ITX
i7 3770S
16GB RAM

Single monitor connected to DVI out on MB.

My end goal is to play around with the recent release candidate of Xen 4.2.

Install was a breeze, everything works great.

Unfortunately after install on boot I am getting a blank blue screen when I would normally expect a login request to appear. I see all of the post info such as enabling network devices etc etc and then nothing.

Based on other forum posts I have already tried:
I have tried adding the following command in the grub options, "video=LVDS-1:d" but that changes nothing.
I've also tried changing the color depth from 32 to 16 in /etc/X11/xorg.conf again no luck.

The only solution I currently have which works but is not satisfactory is to boot into runLevel 3 from grub, log in via the console and then starting the GUI via 'xStart'.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Marc

Clean CentOS 5.8 Install - No Login - Blue Screen

On this blank blue screen, if you move the mouse over to the right hand side of the screen and leave it pushed up against the edge, does it scroll? Same story at the bottom of the screen? Sometimes I've seen it where the desktop is configured to use, e.g. a virtual resolution of 2560x1600 and the physical screen is much smaller so you only see a subset of the desktop.
