./ configure error while installing openldap

Dear All,

I am facing the following error when im trying to install the openldap and running the ./ configure command.

./configure
Configuring OpenLDAP 2.4.21-Release ...
checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu

checking target system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c

checking for gcc... no
configure: error: Unable to locate cc(1) or suitable replacement. Check PATH or set CC.

WHEN I EXECUTE THE COMMAND : export CC=/usr/lib/gcc/i486-linux-gunu-4.1.2/c

IT GIVE ME THE FOLLOWING ERROR

[root@localhost openldap-2.4.21]# ./configure
Configuring OpenLDAP 2.4.21-Release ...

configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables

PLEASE TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE.

Sure, resolve it this way.

Remove the directory where you have the tarball and attempted build.

Now:

[code]
yum install openldap{,-clients,-devel,-servers} nss_ldap
[/code]
When using CentOS for something like ldap, you are much better off using the prebuilt packages provided.

(Unless you're already quite familiar with ldap, personally, and immodestly, I consider it a good introduction.)
