Welcome to the CentOS fora.

The recommended reading for all new members starts with the FAQ & Readme First.

Assuming that your ADSL Modem is a standard home combined "modem / router / DNS server / AP / WAP / switch" device and you have entered the details provided by your ISP to access your account with them, all you should need to do is invoke, as root, system-config-network. Select the appropriate hardware device, configure the network to operate in DHCP mode, save your changes and then exit the utility.

Now, as root, restart the network service --

Code: Select all
/sbin/service network restart

I checked the cat5 cable using a laptop ethernet port having os WIN XP for that the cable is working OK, means the broadband get connected and I can surf the internet.

please guide .. Thanks

Sounds like a hardware-level or possibly driver problem to me. Any chance of trying a different NIC on the CentOS system, or checking the current NIC against some different hardware?

If still having problems please read How to provide information about your system and using sneakernet, provide the output from running ./getinfo.sh network.

I Used the eth2 ethernet card instead of eth1. and the error link not present ..check cable?, got solved. but now the new error as below is showing..

Bringing uo interface eth2:
Determing IP Information for eth2....grep: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0: Permission denied.
grep: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1: Permission denied.
grep: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth2: Permission denied.
grep: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0: Permission denied.
grep: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1: Permission denied.
grep: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth2: Permission denied.

/sbin/dhclient-script: Configuration for eth2 not found. Continuing with defaults.

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/network-functions : line 78: eth2: no such file or directory

failed.

Please guide for the solution. Thanks

So, seems we have 3 Ethernet interfaces to contend with. How did you go about configuring the NICs, and what did you do that generated those errors? It would still be good to see the information requested in post #4.

Re: ADSL Broadband connectivity

Postby pschaff » 2011/02/17 01:56:12

The first thing to do is to turn off either NetworkManager or the network service as they tend to interfere with each other. It is generally best to use NetworkManager on a laptop or other portable system, and the network service for "fixed" systems.
Code: Select all
chkconfig NetworkManager off
service NetworkManager stop

Then use system-config-network to configure the connection. You may need to remove that strange __tmp603595036 device first.
