Postfix: master is stopped!

Postby datatanger » 2010/10/10 20:13:28

Hi everybody,

I have a problem starting postfix on a remote VPS. When I try to start postfix, I get this:

# /etc/init.d/postfix start
Starting postfix: [ OK ]

But when I check if it is running, I get:

# /etc/init.d/postfix status
master is stopped

The problem is that I don't see any error message neither in /var/log/messages nor in /var/log/maillog

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Welcome to the CentOS fora. Reading FAQ & Readme First is recommended for new users, and in particular How to provide information about your system.

It takes a smart question to get a good answer.

In the VPS I'm working on, Plesk is installed. By default, Plesk Server Administrator (PSA) uses Qmail mail server.

I first stopped Qmail and tried to start postfix but the same problem has occured. I then stopped psa daemon and

still got the same problem. As I said before, what makes it difficult for me to figure out the problem is that nothing is

reported in the logs. Mail log /var/log/maillog is even empty and doesn't contain any line.

Plesk provides a heavily modified version of the OS that is not true CentOS. To better understand please read:

Broken Virtual Server

Advice from here might actually break your system. Sounds like a question for your hosting provider or Plesk Support.
