What are the permissions on the INSTALL file?
What type of file is it?

The quickest way to answer would be to change your working directory to the one in which the INSTALL file resides and then post the output returned by --

Code: Select all

ls -l INSTALL
file INSTALL

I not understand why I cant find somewere what is the first commands necessary to write in terminal before to begin installation of some software or other programs which is not incluse in CentOS repositories.

Hi AlanBartlett ,

After I tape the command which you indicate to me anterior

ls -l INSTALL
file INSTALL

I obtained the next answare:

[root@localhost New]# ls -l INSTALL
-r-xr-xr-x 1 admincae root 10520 Jan 12 2007 INSTALL
[root@localhost New]# file INSTALL
INSTALL: Bourne shell script text executable

What means that? Is good news? How can be fixed this problem?

What I cannot understand is that the software what I need to installed on CentOS, is made for .rpm platform. Beside of this, I installed the same software on Ubuntu 64biti and install works on write, and I used there programs without any problems.

I waiting your answer of my question.

If somebody have any idea about how I can activate the install, don't hesitate to offer me an idea.

Thanks in advance to CentOS community for support.

Best regards.

Hi all,

I'm sorry. My mistake. The software is ANSYS 11 64 biti. This software is already installed on Ubuntu 9.10 64 biti, but not all modules function from installation by default because is created special for Red Hat (from the reason of marketing, monney, etc).

So, the software works good on Linux 64biti, but I want to installed on platform for which is created.

If you need other information, I'm here.

Anyway, how I can begin installation on CentOS 5.4 64 biti ?

I waiting much early is possible your answer, idea or suggestion which can help me.

Best regards
