Problem in installation of CentOS 4.2 in SATA Hard Disk

Postby smallbox » 2005/12/14 12:11:56

Do you guys have any problem in installing Linux with SATA hard disk. I am using the Seagate 80G SATA hard disk and the CentOS 4.2
cannot recognize it during installation. It displayed an error message while booting - " Kernel panic -not syncing:VFS: unable to mount root fs on unable-block*8,3)" and " disabling irq 11". At setup screen it hang up with the message " Loading ata_piix driver". Any suggestion for this ?

I had this same problem with a compaq hot plug SCSI, If you boot off the disc and when the screen comes up asking what type of install you want to do sellect that then type acpi=off
example (install type) text acpi=off
Maybe this will work for you like it did for me. Good Luck
