Sorry if I am high jacking this thread. Just a comment on Ansys. I am not familiar with workbench. Is it then same as just Ansys?
If you have a choice of using Abaqus I would strongly recommend it. centOS 5.2 is prefect for it. Just a thought

Ansys is a suite of programs that includes Ansys "classic" (which actually performs the calculations, has it's own script language and gui), AI-Environment (for meshing, esp. CFD models), and Workbench (that ties some of the other features like Design Modeler in a gui), among others. Ansys classic is sometimes just called Ansys.

Thanks for the tip on Abaqus - maybe next year :-)
