additional posting howto

Postby hoodcanaljim » 2012/01/27 01:47:59

Hi

I have looked at most of the posting howto's but haven't seen anything that shows the correct way to use

code
/code
or .
Quote
or
adding a hyperlinked text to a posting

I've seen remarks in several postings that have helped me but none of the wiki or remarks the FAQ & Readme First cover these.

If this is already covered please tell me where or if its so basic I should know... I apologise.

Thanks
Jim

Trevor

Thanks for the response.
Is there a difference between the way quote and code handle line wrap?
And how do you get "a href" to work?

Thanks
Jim

Yes, there's a difference in the way that quote and code handle line wrap. Next you're going to ask me what the difference is and I don't know :-)

You don't use href as such, you use your link text

A page to explain all this might be useful, but nobody has created one. Perhaps it should be added to Readme First.

See this badly named thread for some related discussion and recommendations for tools.

Phil

Yes its truly a "badly named thread" I noticed it earlier but since I had last been reading about rpm info mod_, formating was the last thing that came to mind.

I am trying the line below I found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBCode

Example
and it worked, Yeah.

Phil
On one of my earlier posts you changed a block I marked as "code" to "quote" to fix a mangle the "code" was doing by shifting the page to the right.
What exactly did the "quote" do?

Thanks

Text in a quote segment will be wrapped, and leading whitespace or other formatting ignored, similar to the way normal text. is treated.

I did add a section on formatting to Readme First. I was tempted to link to the text formatting toolbar but decided not to add the additional complexity of explaining it there.
