[SOLVED] "yum update" is not running

Post by mouli345 » 2011/07/14 14:49:02

Hi,

Today only, I installed CentOS 6.0 base (Minimal) installation. I configured the network and able to ping the domains. That means, my internet connection is working fine.

When I am trying to do yum update, i am getting this error and pasting below:

[root@test ~]# yum update
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=6&arch=i386& repo=os error was
14: PYCURL ERROR 6 - ""
Error: Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: base

I tried a lot in internet to resolve the above issue. But, didn't find any correct solutions.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Chandra

What do you get if you run
wget "http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=6&arch=x86_64&repo=os"
This did not work for me.

I have used a default install of CentOS 6 minimal desktop and tried modifying the nameserver also. I get the same error.

Edit, tried to wget, but it isnt installed by default? Should I try a different CentOS 6 image (Desktop)?

Is your network working? Can you ping a site by IP address instead of by name?

I just installed the Desktop version and it seems to be working there... Idk what exactly the issue was with the minimal installation. I'll try to re-install it on another VM and see if I can figure out what was going on.

Hi,

As you all said, I tried the below things:

1) Ping the web site by typing the IP address and working fine
2) Ping the web site with name and working fine
3) wget is not installed and tried to install with yum. But, getting the same error.

Can anybody suggest a solution please?

Thanks in advance.

Chandra

Hi,

I found the solution. While installing, I configured the networking manually. As per my observation, entered IP address is conflicted with in the network. That means, I entered the same IP address to this CentOS system also, which is already given to another system. Like Windows, it is not showing the IP address conflict.

Now, I reinstalled the minimal version of CentOS and entered the correct IP address now everything is working fine.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Chandra
